BOYS BASKETBALL: Longwood-Hills West Notebook

BY Joe Werkmeister  |  SPORTS EDITOR

• Wednesday's game was the first time Longwood played Hills West since Dennis Terry has been head coach. The Lions had been 6-0 all-time against the Colts, the only team they were undefeated against with at least five games played.

Longwood senior Darien Davis finished the season with 508 points (23 per game) for the third highest single season total in school history. He moved ahead of Willie McCain, who scored 504 in the 1976-77 season. Only William McClurkin (571 in 1999-00) and Curtis Dunn (515 in 1985-86) scored more points.

Longwood dropped to 1-4 all-time in the county finals. The Lions' only win came in 2000. Longwood is now 23-15 all-time in the playoffs under Terry since 1992.

• For the second straight year the Lions finished one win shy of equaling the school record for most victories in a season of 20 set in 2000. The Lions won nine games in a row twice this season, falling one game short of the school record set in three previous seasons.

Longwood shot 27-of-62 (44 percent) against Hills West. The Lions were 6-of-15 (40 percent) from beyond the arc. Five of their 3-pointers came in the second half. Hills West was 25-of-63 (40 percent) and 3-of-9 from downtown.

• The Colts had a big advantage from the free-throw line. They were 9-of-13 in the first half. In the second half they shot a poor percentage, but still had a lot of chances, going 10-of-17. They finished the game 19-of-30 (63 percent). The Lions, meanwhile, were 9-of-12 from the line.

• Patrick Piasecki scored 12 points with seven rebounds for Longwood . Paris Parks scored 11 points with five rebounds and five assists. Chris Green added eight points.

• Tyler Harris was 1-of-9 shooting in the first half for four points. In the first half Tobias Harris and Emile Blackman combined for six field goal attempts. The duo then took the first six shots of the second half.

• The Lions allowed only one dunk all game. It came at the start of the fourth quarter on a fastbreak by Tobias Harris.

• Piasecki, like Tobias Harris, was in foul trouble most of the game. He picked up his fourth with 7:09 left in the fourth quarter.

• The Lions called a timeout with 1:26 left, trailing by four. But they turned it over on the inbounds play, leading to a free throw by Blackman.
